Do electronic checks have a future online?

This may surprise those who think the payment world is ruled by credit cards:
checks continue to be the most popular and widely available non-cash payment
method in the U.S. Last year, consumers and corporations wrote over 68 billion
checks, with 65% of those written by consumers and businesses to make
purchases or pay bills.

Yet, as a form of payment, electronic checks have not gained
wide acceptance for the purchase of goods and services online. This will
